For the first time ever in history, India hosted an international cylcling event. Team CKT tmit -
Champion System was represented with5 riders at this premiere. The flat 2.8 km criterium lap
on a highway bridge in the city of Mumbai had to be done 32 times. Before half way of the
race, a six-man group broke away from the peloton with some of the most prominent favourites
in there. Team Saxo Bank was represented by sprinters Juan José Haedo and Baden Cooke, Team
Nutrixxion with Dirk Müller and Philipp Mamos, Tabriz Petrochemical with Tobias Erler and our team
with Jaan Kirsipuu. The breakaway managed to stay away and gradually increase the time gap to
the peloton. Saxo Bank and Nutrixxion had different options to play team tactics. It was no suprise
that Haedo and Müller rode awayfrom the group, now leaving the chasing work to Erler and Kirsipuu.
Argentinan Haedo finally beat Müller, Erler coming third by riding away from the Kirsipuu group in the
final lap.
Mart Ojavee finished 19th in the main bunch, while Serge Herz and Roger Beuchat both had to
abandon the race after punctures. It was nearly impossible for the unlucky riders to make their way
back to the bunch once you had to stop for a wheel change because there were no team cars
following the race.
